At Beginly Health, I led a comprehensive UX overhaul, designing and implementing updates to improve engagement, streamline workflows, and align the platform with user needs and business objectives. I ran user testing sessons with the user population, identifying painpoints, validating enhancements, and refined the final design approach. My work included updating UX and UI designs to ensure consistency, while also addressing key usability challenges. These efforts resulted in a more intuitive, engaging platform that better connects clinicians with meaningful career opportunities.

Impact
The product updates are currently being implemented, and their impact will be assessed through data analysis, user behavior analytics, and focused post-launch validation testing.

I approached the problem not by tearing everything down, but looking at what was working, and what improvements were needed to increase candidates engagement and profile completions.

Seeking opportunities

It was important to thoughtfully restructure the pages from several perspectives:

1. Minimizing the impact on development: I aimed to reduce the workload on the development team by exploring opportunities to adjust content rather than updating templates whenever feasible. This approach ensured efficiency while maintaining design integrity.

2. Respecting existing user patterns: With an established user base, I was cautious about disrupting familiar patterns users understand and rely on. However, I remained open to recommending improved flows if they clearly enhanced user engagement and experience.

3.Ensuring logical site flow: I also took the time to remap the site structure to verify that the overall flow was intuitive and logical, identifying opportunities to refine the user journey where needed.

User Testing - Prototyping
User testing and concept validation were critical steps in the process. I collaborated with product leadership to develop scenarios that aligned with the primary objectives and ensured meaningful insights could be gathered.
To facilitate testing, I built a prototype designed to evaluate five specific scenarios, providing valuable data to inform the next steps.

On-site testing
During two days of in-person testing in Portland in early November 2024, we conducted sessions with 21 users, ranging from first-year residents to physicians with over 10 years of experience. I utilized a clickable prototype to prompt users and observe their interactions, and 3 card sorting exercises.

To capture detailed insights, I set up a screen and voice recording app, enabling me to review how users navigated the prototype and verbalized their thoughts. Afterward, I processed the transcripts through ChatGPT to compare and summarize key comments and pain points. This approach proved to be an excellent way for the product team and me to digest over 15 hours of video and transcripts efficiently. I also wrote a report that I presented to the CEO and the rest of the leadership team.View full report.

Learning and Validations
Engagement Focus
UsUsers are matched with companies and job opportunities, which they can browse anonymously before deciding to accept. Encouraging users to accept matches was a primary goal. To achieve this, I designed a carousel featuring connection cards, enabling one-click connections or the option to explore roles in greater depth. This approach tested exceptionally well with all users.

The card-based design also provided an opportunity to present additional actions users could take to engage further with the site, leading seamlessly into the next focus: directing user interactions more effectively.

Directing the users
A common issue with apps is the users not sure what to do, or do next. I put together simple little widgets and modules that heped direct the user, these were very well received during our testing.

User Tools
I aimed to create user tools that would enhance the job search process, streamline interviews, and facilitate communication with recruiters. These tools included:

1. Interview Sheets: A one-page output summarizing key information about the role, salary, recruiter, and an AI-driven question builder to help candidates prepare effectively for interviews.

2. AI-Driven Cover Letter Writing Widget: This tool evaluated the user’s experience and the job requirements to generate a personalized and compelling cover letter introduction.

3. Notes and Calendar Widget: This feature allowed users to take notes during interviews and easily add follow-up events to their preferred calendar app.

Empowering users is a top priority for me. By providing tools that support them in their job search and professional growth, we not only enhance their experience but also cultivate loyal advocates who are likely to return and promote the platform.
